RxERP, the serialized enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform purpose-built for the pharmaceutical supply chain, today announced that Mary Vrana has joined the company as EDI Program Manager. Vrana brings more than seven years of electronic data interchange (EDI) experience across nearly every corner of the pharmaceutical supply chain. At RxERP, she will lead the company’s efforts to help manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, micro-distributors, and 3PLs connect with their trading partners faster.
EDI is how pharmaceutical trading partners exchange orders, shipment notices, and invoices, yet getting connected is often slow and tedious. For many companies, every new partner means more mapping, testing, and back-and-forth before a single order flows. Over time, that friction has come to feel normal.
“Part of why I joined RxERP is a story our CEO, Steve Madsen, told me,” said Vrana. “Grandma always cut the ends off her pot roast, so her daughter did too, and then her granddaughter. Years later, someone finally asked Grandma why. Grandma laughed. Her pan was too small. That’s EDI. It’s disjointed, frustrating, oversimplified, and it takes far more time than it needs to, not because people aren’t doing their jobs well, but because the process is misunderstood. Most companies have accepted that EDI will be extremely time-consuming and haven’t stopped to understand the bottlenecks.”
“At RxERP, we’re identifying those bottlenecks, improving communication with trading partners, and building solutions that make the process faster,” Vrana added. “Steve has given me the runway to use everything I’ve learned while leveraging AI.”
Vrana began her EDI career at Central Park Data Systems, where she worked as a Senior IBM i Developer and EDI Specialist with manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, and pharmacy management systems. She learned EDI from the ground up under Rainier Sajous, an early mentor whose decades of experience in the pharma industry gave her a solid foundation. At SureCost, a pharmacy procurement platform, she managed integrations primarily with suppliers, along with pharmacy management systems, value-added networks (VANs), third-party EDI providers, and other platforms. That role gave her a 360-degree view of the pharmacy supply chain, from how pharmacies buy to how suppliers sell and fulfill.
Vrana is also a U.S. Coast Guard veteran and credits her four years of service with the hard work and determination she brings to every project. Today, she is simplifying EDI workflows and mapping so customers can connect with trading partners in less time and with less effort.
“EDI is one of the primary ways the pharmaceutical supply chain communicates, yet too many companies still treat slow, painful connections as unavoidable,” said Steve Madsen, founder and CEO of RxERP. “Mary has worked across every layer of these connections, from writing code to managing integrations throughout the pharmacy supply chain. She sees the bottlenecks others have learned to live with and knows how to fix them.”
